The works in On the Edge represent the reactions of leading Chinese artists to encounters with the West. Some are contemplative musings on the space that opens up when one culture is observed from the vantage point of another. Others are more confrontational comments on Western dominance in the process of globalization. Some take strategic advantage of an outsider position.
