How It All Began
I was twenty, a dedicated athlete in a track‑and‑field club, and both smoking and drinking were foreign concepts to me. Frequent moves forced me to keep looking for a new place to live, and one day I discovered a house whose half was rented out by Natalia Ivanovna. I had my own entrance, and I quickly befriended the landlady, hoping to stay there for a long time.
First Ominous Dream
One night I dreamed of an elderly woman with silver hair pounding on a window, begging to be let in. I awoke, stared at that very window, and saw the same old woman reflected in the glass. At first I dismissed it as a coincidence.
Unusual Night Events
A few days later a friend came over. While I was preparing a sweet treat, a loud knock echoed from the front door accompanied by a dog’s bark. I opened the door to find no one. Yet the feeling that someone was standing behind me never left me. Night after night the same silver‑haired woman appeared in my dreams, this time inside the house, trying to strangle me.
Revelation from the Photo Album
A week later I confided everything to Natalia. She fetched an old photo album, and on one picture I recognized the same face—it was her sister Elena, who had died several years earlier.
Who Was Elena?
- Practised black magic.
- On her deathbed, begged her sister to hold her hand so she could pass on her power.
- Natalia refused, after which Elena cursed the house, swearing it would “grant life to no one.”
The Banishment Ritual
Fortunately, I had a friend versed in occult matters. We decided to perform a cleansing ritual:
- Bought consecrated candles.
- Lit them and walked clockwise around every sharp corner of the house, starting at the front door.
- At each corner we recited “Our Father.”
- At the corner where I slept—later revealed as the spot where Elena died—the candle smoke rose in a black column.
When the ritual ended, the oppressive sense of a presence vanished, and the nightmares stopped tormenting me.
Conclusion
This experience forced me to rethink my attitude toward the inexplicable. Sometimes ghosts are merely the remnants of unfulfilled wishes and curses, which can be expelled when approached with respect for tradition and a firm belief in the power of ritual.
